Why respraying beats replacing in a Luton kitchen

A new fitted kitchen in Luton comfortably runs into five figures once you have paid for units, worktops, fitting and a week with no kitchen. A respray keeps the carcasses and the layout you already have and changes the part you actually look at: the doors, the drawer fronts, the frames and the edges. If the units are structurally sound and you are simply tired of the colour, spraying is the sensible spend.

Luton has a lot of kitchens in exactly that position. The Victorian terraces around High Town and the town centre tend to have compact kitchens where ripping units out means disturbing plaster and tiling you would rather leave alone. The 1930s and 1950s semis in Round Green, Stopsley and Bushmead often have solid, generously sized units in a dated finish. The newer estates out toward Wigmore frequently have builder-standard gloss doors that have simply gone out of fashion. All three respond well to a respray.

  • The ProFinish Kitchen System: assessment to handover

The agreed kitchen scope can include doors, drawer fronts, fixed frames, end panels, plinths and cornice. Preparation, protection and the coating specification are confirmed after assessment. Interiors, repairs and hardware changes are included only where listed in your quote.

    Stage 1

    Strip, degrease, prep

Doors and drawer fronts are removed and labelled where appropriate. We protect surrounding surfaces, agree the working area and prepare the surfaces for the specified coating system. Repairs and any existing wrap removal are assessed and included in the quote where required.

    Stage 2

    Compatible primer where required

We select a primer compatible with the substrate, existing finish and topcoat where the specified system requires one. Surface preparation, drying and recoating follow the manufacturer's instructions.

    Stage 3

The finish is applied to the agreed surfaces using a coating system suited to the job. Recoat times, any sanding between coats and the return-to-use period follow the product instructions and site conditions.

The schedule depends on the size, condition, coating system and access. Preparation, recoating and return to use follow the product requirements and site conditions. Jay confirms the working dates and expected disruption before you book.

Doors and drawer fronts are removed and labelled where appropriate. We protect surrounding surfaces, agree the working area and prepare the surfaces for the specified coating system. Repairs and any existing wrap removal are assessed and included in the quote where required.

The protection and ventilation setup is assessed for your property and the specified coatings. We agree the working area, exclusion periods and safe return to use before starting. A temporary enclosure alone does not establish that adjoining rooms can remain occupied.

We assess the existing surface and specify a compatible preparation, primer and topcoat system for the job. The coating choice depends on the substrate, condition and working environment. Your written quote explains the proposed finish and aftercare.

Yes. Any RAL colour or Farrow & Ball equivalent, in matt, satin or gloss. Once your booking deposit is received you can ask for a sprayed sample panel in your chosen colour, so you confirm the colour with a professionally sprayed sample before the main work begins. You get to handle the real finish, the sheen and the edges. Available where practical for the job; additional colours or extra samples may be chargeable.

Small kitchens start at £1,995. Medium kitchens are typically £2,395 to £2,695, and large or high-detail kitchens with islands, larder units or glazed doors are typically £2,995 to £3,995 and up, quoted individually. ProFinish is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT on top.

Access to the working area is restricted during preparation, spraying and the required clearance period. Jay will agree protection, ventilation, exclusion and safe return-to-use arrangements before work starts. Plan for limited kitchen access until the area is ready for use.
