Dunstable kitchens: what usually makes sense

Dunstable's housing stock splits fairly neatly. The 1960s and 1970s semis and terraces around Downside, Beecroft and the Brewers Hill side of town tend to have kitchens with plenty of doors and a finish that has simply aged, which makes them ideal respray candidates, because the units themselves are usually still solid. The older properties nearer High Street North and Church Street often have kitchens fitted into awkward, characterful spaces, where pulling units out to replace them means disturbing far more than you intended. And the newer builds toward the Houghton Regis boundary and Poynters Road commonly have high-gloss builder-standard doors that look dated long before they wear out.

In all three cases the question is the same: are the carcasses sound? If they are, respraying gets you the colour and finish you actually want for a fraction of a refit, with the duration agreed after assessment. If they are not (if doors are delaminating or hinges are pulling out of chipboard), Jay will tell you straight that spraying is the wrong spend. That conversation is free.

Dunstable is a ten-minute run from base, so surveys are easy to arrange. Any RAL colour or Farrow & Ball equivalent can be mixed, in matt, satin or gloss, and once your booking deposit is received you can ask for a sprayed sample panel in your chosen colour, so you confirm the colour with a professionally sprayed sample before the main work begins.

  • The ProFinish Kitchen System: assessment to handover

Every surface is sprayed, including the frames left in place. Nothing is brushed or cut in by hand, and no stage gets skipped to save a day.

    Stage 1

    Strip, degrease, prep

Doors and drawer fronts are removed and labelled where appropriate. We protect surrounding surfaces, agree the working area and prepare the surfaces for the specified coating system. Repairs and any existing wrap removal are assessed and included in the quote where required.

    Stage 2

    Compatible primer where required

We select a primer compatible with the substrate, existing finish and topcoat where the specified system requires one. Surface preparation, drying and recoating follow the manufacturer's instructions.

    Stage 3

The finish is applied to the agreed surfaces using a coating system suited to the job. Recoat times, any sanding between coats and the return-to-use period follow the product instructions and site conditions.

    Stage 4

    Further coats as specified

    Stage 5

    Reinstall and hand over

Doors and drawers go back on in order, tent and masking come down, the kitchen is cleaned and handed back. Jay does a final check with you before he leaves.

    Ask Jay a Question

If the carcasses are sound and the hinges are solid, respraying almost always makes more sense. You are changing the part you look at without paying for units, worktops and fitting. If doors are delaminating or hinges are pulling out of chipboard, Jay will tell you spraying is the wrong spend rather than take the job.

The schedule depends on the size, condition, coating system and access. Preparation, recoating and return to use follow the product requirements and site conditions. Jay confirms the working dates and expected disruption before you book.

Yes. Any RAL colour or Farrow & Ball equivalent, in matt, satin or gloss. Bring the reference and, once your booking deposit is received, you can ask for a sprayed sample panel in it so you can confirm your chosen colour with a professionally sprayed sample before the main work begins. Available where practical for the job; additional colours or extra samples may be chargeable.

You can. Hardware is removed or masked during spraying and refitted at the end. Plenty of customers use the respray as the moment to change handles as well, which is a cheap way to shift the whole look. Just tell Jay at survey.
